Welcome to “Reviews inside TV,” the place where we take a deeper look at the latest and greatest in tech. Today, we’re checking out the ASUS RT-BE92U BE9700 Tri-Band WiFi 7 Router. With the ever-growing demand for faster, more reliable connections, this router promises to elevate your internet experience. Let’s see if it lives up to the hype.
The ASUS RT-BE92U BE9700 is built to handle the needs of today’s high-speed, high-demand online activities. It supports WiFi 7, also known as 802.11be, and introduces some next-gen features. What sets it apart is the inclusion of the new 320MHz bandwidth channels in the 6 GHz band, and the 4096-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) technology, which combined, offer speeds of up to 9700 mega bits per second. That’s an impressive number—9700 mega bits per second—pushing the boundaries of what we’ve come to expect in home networking.
It doesn’t stop there. The RT-BE92U also features Multi-Link Operation, or MLO, which allows it to connect across multiple bands simultaneously. This can make a noticeable difference, especially when dealing with multiple devices demanding high-speed connectivity. Add to that the router’s support for both 4G LTE and 5G mobile tethering via a USB port, and you’ve got a router that can provide constant internet access, even when your primary connection is unstable. AI WAN detection ensures that if one link drops, it automatically switches to another, maintaining a reliable connection throughout the day.
For those with smart homes, the router provides a Smart Home Master feature. This allows you to easily set up and manage multiple IoT devices, giving you a streamlined experience with features like VPN connections, parental controls, and overall smarter device management. It even offers subscription-free network security with AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro, which adds a layer of safety to your network without any additional fees.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time with the ASUS RT-BE92U to see how it actually performs in everyday use. Setting up this router was incredibly straightforward. The user interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to get everything up and running. I was able to connect my various devices without any hassle, and the WiFi range covered my entire house, including some of the more difficult areas like the basement. That’s something I’ve found to be a challenge with some other routers in this price range.
Now, when it comes to real-world performance, the RT-BE92U really shines in high-traffic situations. I ran multiple speed tests in my home, streaming 4K video on one device, downloading large files on another, and gaming on a third. The router managed it all without any noticeable slowdowns. The speeds were stable, and I could move between rooms without dropping the connection. It handled large file transfers with ease, thanks to the 320MHz channels and the 4096-QAM modulation, which really boost throughput.
However, it’s not all sunshine. The ASUS RT-BE92U can be a bit bulky compared to some of its competitors. This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re limited on space. Also, while the WiFi coverage is great, I did notice that in some very specific configurations, the 6 GHz band didn’t always maintain as strong a signal as the 5 GHz band, especially when there were obstacles in the way. This is a fairly minor issue, but worth mentioning for those with large homes or complicated layouts.
One thing I absolutely appreciate is the subscription-free security. AiProtection Pro by Trend Micro is a commercial-grade security solution that doesn’t require a monthly fee. This is a huge plus in my book because you don’t have to worry about ongoing costs just to keep your network secure. The one-tap security scan and Safe Browsing features add an additional layer of protection without complicating things.
Now, let’s talk about value. The ASUS RT-BE92U is certainly priced on the higher end, and rightfully so, considering the features it brings to the table. It’s a router designed for power users who want to future-proof their home networks. If you’re someone who relies heavily on streaming, gaming, or even working from home, this router could be a solid investment. That said, there are other routers out there at a lower price point that offer good performance, but if you’re looking for cutting-edge WiFi 7 support and top-tier features like AI WAN detection and advanced security, the RT-BE92U is definitely worth considering.
When comparing it to other routers on the market, one notable competitor is the Netgear Nighthawk RAXE500, which also supports WiFi 6E and delivers high-speed performance, but lacks some of the more advanced features like AI WAN detection and the Smart Home Master system. The price is also somewhat comparable, but the ASUS RT-BE92U might have a leg up if you prioritize seamless multi-device performance and easy IoT integration.
In terms of build quality, the ASUS RT-BE92U feels solid and well-constructed. The plastic body is sturdy, and the router’s design ensures it doesn’t overheat during long usage sessions. While I don’t have long-term data to speak on its durability yet, ASUS has a good reputation for building reliable networking equipment, so I expect it to hold up over time. The only issue here is its size—it’s a bit of a space-hog if you’re trying to keep your tech setup minimal.
I haven’t needed to reach out to ASUS’s customer service during my testing, but their reputation for handling inquiries and support is generally positive. If you encounter any issues, you’re likely to get prompt assistance, especially with such a high-end product.
As for firmware updates, it’s important to note that this router will likely receive regular updates to improve performance and security over time. While I didn’t experience any issues during my testing, having a router that stays up-to-date with the latest security patches is always a benefit.
To wrap things up, the ASUS RT-BE92U BE9700 Tri-Band WiFi 7 Router delivers exceptional performance with its WiFi 7 capabilities, high-speed throughput, and advanced features like AI WAN detection and Smart Home Master. It offers excellent security, strong multi-device support, and is a solid choice for those with high-bandwidth needs. While its size and slightly inconsistent 6 GHz performance may be drawbacks for some, its overall performance and feature set make it a top contender for anyone looking to upgrade their home network. If you’re in the market for a future-proof router that can handle everything you throw at it, this is definitely one to consider.
